JOB TITLE: Laser Weeder / Production Intern

LOCATION: Soledad, CA – Various Locations in Monterey County

Position Description
As a Laser Weeder Intern, the intern will assist in operating our Laser weeder (Slayer) from a tractor cab in the field on a daily basis, the intern’s role will be to operate Slayer, execute efficiency tests, and provide feedback to multiple stakeholders. The intern will be assisting in writing Standard Operating Procedures for the equipment, as well as developing schedules for two Laser weeders, with assistance from the production team. The Laser weeder intern will work alongside the production team, as well as the weeding and thinning supervisor.
This individual will report to the Director of Farming, internship shall run the length of the individual’s summer break (May-August or June-September).

Duties & Responsibilities
• Be responsible for scheduling, transporting and operating equipment.
• Identify issues for process improvement.
• Write Standard Operating Procedures to streamline the operation and transportation processes.
• Identify any potential safety issues.
• Availability to travel to throughout the Salinas growing region.
• Must be detail-oriented and organized, while accomplishing tasks in a fast-paced, goal-oriented manner
• Internship will be a full-time position, at an hourly rate of pay.
• Able to work flexible hours when necessary; must be able to dedicate 40 hours per week to this position, more than 8 hours in a day may be required, if unexpected situations and issues should occur.

Required Skills
• Must be comfortable working outside.
• Must have good problem-solving skills.
• 3 years of mechanical/technical experience
• Tractor Driving experience.
• Effective verbal and written communicate in English, Spanish speaker a plus
• Reliable attendance, punctuality, and attention to work
• Being thoughtful and detail oriented.
• Possess a Valid California Driver’s License
• Ability to use a Cell phone and/or a tablet
• Clean driving record confirmation from the DMV
• Must be detail-oriented and organized..
• Must have good problem-solving skills.
• Have good verbal and written communication skills to explain results to others.
• Have a willingness to learn key R&D and manufacturing concepts.
• Able to handle multiple projects in a fast paced, multi-disciplinary environment.
• Must have knowledge and experience working with Microsoft Word and Excel.

Required Education
Pursuing a B.S. degree and studying a scientific discipline linked to Food Science, Nutrition, Dietetics, Agriculture, Manufacturing, or candidates with educational background in those areas.
